If you have recently changed your website’s domain or restructured your URLs, you may need to set up a 301 redirect to ensure that your visitors and search engines are redirected to the correct page. A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect that informs the search engines that the page has moved permanently to a new location. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to set up a 301 redirect in WordPress.

Step 1: Install and Activate the “Redirection” Plugin

The easiest way to set up a 301 redirect in WordPress is by using the “Redirection” plugin. To install and activate the plugin, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the “Plugins” section in your WordPress dashboard..

  3. Install and activate the plugin

Step 2: Create a New Redirect

Once the “Redirection” plugin is installed and activated, you can create a new redirect by following these steps:

  1. Go to the “Tools” section in your WordPress dashboard and click “Redirection”.
  2. Click “Add New” to create a new redirect.
  3. In the “Source URL” field, enter the old URL that needs to be redirected.
  4. In the “Target URL” field, enter the new URL that the old URL should redirect to.
  5. Select “301 – Permanent” as the redirect type.

  1. Copy the old URL that you entered in the “Source URL” field.
  2. Paste the old URL in your web browser’s address bar and press enter.
  3. You should be redirected to the new URL that you entered in the “Target URL” field.
  4. If the redirect is working correctly, you’re done!

Step 4: Review and Manage Your Redirects

The “Redirection” plugin allows you to review and manage all of your redirects in one place. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the “Tools” section in your WordPress dashboard and click “Redirection”.
  2. Here, you can view all of your existing redirects and make any necessary changes or updates.
  3. You can also export your redirects as a CSV file or delete them if they’re no longer needed.
