Update Xcode using new Apple ID

April 21, 2021 by Tejas Maheta

Xcode is an integrated development environment created by Apple for macOS. You can develop software for macOS, watch OS, iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS using Xcode. This article will walk you through the process of updating your Xcode with a new Apple ID, step by step.

For updating Xcode using a new Apple ID, you must first remove the old credentials using which you downloaded the app from the App Store. To remove the old credentials, you need to delete the _Mas Receipt directory from the Xcode application.

Steps to follow

  1. Launch Finder and go to Applications.
  2. Select Xcode and right-click on it, and choose “Show Package Contents.”
  3. Enlarge the Contents directory and select _Mas Receipt.
  4. Type Command+Delete to delete the directory permanently. Another method is to right-click on it and select “Move to Trash.”
  5. Since this is a secure file, the application will ask you for your credentials.
  6. Provide the necessary credentials upon being prompted.
  7. Restart the App Store after closing it. Then look for Xcode.
  8. Now, press the “Update” button to update your Xcode.
  9. You can now log in to Xcode with a new Apple ID.

App Store will update your Xcode to the latest version with the newly logged-in Apple ID.
