Smartphones are two types; locked and unlocked. Here, Locked means the smartphones are locked to a particular telecom provider, while unlocked smartphones work with all network telecom providers. You cannot use different sim cards on locked phones. One of the biggest disadvantages of a locked phone is that you cannot change your network provider. Also, they make you agree to some of their terms and conditions that involve additional charges in case you exceed their plan.
When phones are bought at a price lesser than their actual cost, usually during an offer period, are locked; their guarantee and repair costs are handled by the network provider only. The “Phone Not Allowed MM#6” error comes when your phone is already locked to a specific network provider, and you try to insert a sim card of another network provider. If you bought your iPhone by paying the exact amount and are looking for the solution to the “Phone Not Allowed MM#6” error, here are a few methods you can try to fix this issue on your iPhone.
Try inserting the sim card again.
If you have an unlocked phone and still facing this error, it could be due to improper insertion of the sim card. Try to eject the sim card and reinsert it properly.
If the issue is minor, reinsertion will fix it. If this method does not work, try the following other methods.
Change the network selection method.
Another way to fix this is to check if there is a network connectivity error. Select automatic network selection from device settings to constantly keep your device connected to an available network.
To change this setting in your iPhone, do the following:
Settings-> Mobile Data-> select the phone number->Network Selection->Turn the Automatic feature ON by sliding the icon.
Contact your network service provider
For locked phones, all the issues happening in the device is part of the service provided by the telecom network provider. To fix this issue, you first need to contact them. Make a call to customer care and put a request to unlock. Keep the following things in your mind while moving forward with the customer care request.
- If your phone is lost or stolen, it will take you to put other requests and requirements before proceeding with this one.
- If the phone is locked to a specific carrier, the network service provider may charge you a fee, referred to as Equipment Switch.
- Some phones come with a built-in phone number linked to them. In those cases, it is difficult to unlock them.
Try dialing up the operation code.
Every network provider has a different way to fix the unlock issue. You need to do a bit of search for the operation code specific to your network provider.
*#78#* is one such code. It will take you to the operations menu and helps to disengage from your previous network carrier. After doing so, your device becomes unlocked, and you can switch to another network without error. Note that this method does not work for every network provider.
Buy a sim unlocker
If all the above methods fail to unlock and resolve the issue on your iPhone, you can buy or download a sim unlocker that is easily available online. It makes your iPhone compatible with other network providers, the only prerequisite needed here is your device should not be lost or marked as blacklisted.
To avoid such errors, always buy used phones from a trusted source and ensure it is unlocked. The last sim unlocker method is the best working method with a greater probability of success. It is also recommended to check the compatibility of your device with the sim unlocker.
