How To Send Large Video Files On WhatsApp

December 28, 2024 by Tejas Maheta

Whatsapp has made daily messaging comfortable to the point of replacing the traditional SMS system. Not only does it allow easy exchange of texts, but it also allows sharing several different documents, files, and media formats such as photos, PDFs, audios, videos, etc.

However, Whatsapp, too, has its shortcomings, including features that are not yet perfect. One such setback is that it does not allow the sharing of large video files of more than 64 MB. But, there may be instances where you may need to send large video files. For that, we have listed a few methods that you can follow. If you are keen to know, let us begin right away.

Sending large video files over Whatsapp

There are a few known methods that will allow you to share large video files over Whatsapp. We have listed them all— you may follow whichever suits you the best.

Via Google Drive

The most common method would be to use Google Drive. Here is how you can do it:

  • Select the file/s that needs to be shared and upload it on your Google Drive (If you have a Google account, you will automatically have a Google Drive. Simply go to the Google Drive site and log in with your Google ID to access your Drive)
  • Once your file/s has been uploaded, right-click on it for the drop-down menu and select ‘Share.’
  • Select the ‘Get a Sharable Link’ option. It would be located on the top right section.
  • You may change the accessibility restrictions. You can decide whether the person with the link can view, edit, or comment on the file. Under the same menu, select the ‘Anyone With the Link’ option.
  • The link will automatically be copied to your clipboard. Now, head over to Whatsapp and open the desired chat. Paste the link in the text box and send it.

Via WeTransfer

The next method on the list is to use a third-party app called WeTransfer. It is a perfect tool for the quick sharing of large files. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Visit the WeTransfer site and upload your files by tapping on the ‘Add Files’ option. Your files may be as large as 2 GB. However, the premium version of WeTransfer allows the transfer of up to 20 GB.
  • Once the files have been uploaded, select the ‘Get Link’ option and get the shareable link.
  • Simply copy-paste the link to your Whatsapp chat, and you are done. The person with the link can download the files until the link expires within a week.

Via Wondershare Uni-Converter

The last method on this list is by using Wondershare Uni-Converter. It is another excellent tool that allows sharing of large files of 10 GB and up. Here is how you can do it:

  • Firstly, you are required to download the app from the respective stores, depending on your device (Android or iOS).
  • Once the app is downloaded and installed, add your video file to the app by clicking on the ‘Add Files’ button, which will appear in the center of the screen when you run the app.
  • Next, you need to select the video format. To do that, select the settings option from the drop-down menu. Make the necessary changes here to move to the next step.
  • All that is left to do is to compress the file— don’t worry, the video may be compressed, but the quality won’t be compromised.
  • Your video will now be compressed. Simply transfer the video to your phone (via a USB cable) and send it to the desired chat on Whatsapp. You may also use Whatsapp Web to directly send it without transferring the video to your phone.
