How to Fix WhatsApp Web QR Code Not Working (8 Methods)

January 3, 2025 by Tejas Maheta

WhatsApp is one of the most widely used online messaging platforms. The iOS and Android programme for video and audio calling and chat, WhatsApp Messenger, is also available as WhatsApp Web. Both a system programme that can be downloaded for Mac and Windows and a browser-based version of WhatsApp is available for desktop users. You can access conversations on any platform, regardless of where they start, thanks to WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop, which work as extensions of your mobile WhatsApp account. All messages are synchronised between your phone and your computer. The software might, however, occasionally experience problems and stop functioning. Here, we present possible solutions to the issue.

What Could Be The Reason?

99% of the time, WhatsApp Web loads the QR code without any problems, all other factors being equal. The WhatsApp Web QR code may not load, though, due to a bad internet connection, issues with your web browser, incompatible apps or browser extensions, etc.

We should point out that if the camera lens is filthy or if part of the QR code is covered, your smartphone won’t be able to see the code clearly. Use a dry microfiber cloth to clean the lens of the back-facing camera on your device. We also advise cleaning the screen of your computer.

How to Resolve?

Your Internet Connection is Blocking WhatsApp

When using a public, educational, or commercial internet connection, this frequently occurs. Many places like these block or restrict access to websites like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter out of concern for an employee or student safety or to stop distractions during work or school hours. Even if they do load, they can’t do it completely, which prevents the QR code from appearing.
If the internet network is not yours, you cannot have its configuration changed. Use the WhatsApp app on your phone if you wish to use WhatsApp in your school or workplace. Use the Wi-Fi or USB tethering capabilities of your phone to set up a local hotspot instead. The reason WhatsApp Web won’t scan QR codes on your PC may be due to a different issue if your network has no limits.

Update Your Browser

WhatsApp Web won’t be able to read your QR code if you’re using an outdated browser. By upgrading your web browser, you can resolve this quickly. Use the browser’s built-in update tool to do this, or search for and download the most recent version from the company’s website. To use WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp advises utilising the most recent versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, or Opera. Some WhatsApp Web features might not work if you’re using an older browser or one of the other web browsers not listed. Not all versions of Internet Explorer are compatible with WhatsApp Web.

Your Ad-Blocker Might Be Intervening

Your browser or computer’s ad blocker can mistakenly identify the frame of the WhatsApp online QR code as an advertisement if you’ve got one installed. Ad blockers don’t do it by default. However, the ad blocker won’t allow it to load if their rules are too strict or if you unintentionally banned WhatsApp Web’s QR code frame. Reduce the ad blocker’s severity, restore the filters to their initial settings, or delete it entirely.

Clear WhatsApp Web Cache

Performance issues with WhatsApp Web might result from corrupt temporary or cache files. Delete the temporary files that WhatsApp or WhatsApp Web has previously produced by visiting the cookie or data management area of your browser. To view all cookies and site data for Chrome, navigate to Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data. In the search field, enter “web.whatsapp.com” or “whatsapp.com,” and then press the Bin button or choose Remove Any Shown to get rid of all cookies associated with WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp itself. If after clearing all associated cookies and data the QR code still won’t load, reset your browser’s settings or try a new browser.

Disable VPN

VPNs are necessary to safeguard our connection privacy. But in some cases, an application might not be able to access the internet if the location set on the VPN does not match well with the application. So even with the WhatsApp application, that could be the case. Your computer tries to establish a connection from a different location when you connect to a VPN or proxy. Sometimes it can’t connect, which causes a problem with the WhatsApp Web QR Code not appearing. The solution would be to disable the VPN entirely and then try loading up the QR code again.

Change Your Browser

If the problem with the browser continues and you continue to see the WhatsApp online QR code not functioning on Windows error, you could try using a new browser. Unstable versions of browsers are occasionally updated, and these versions may have problems that prevent some functionality from operating as intended. Think about switching your browser, then see whether the WhatsApp web QR code appears. You can benefit from changing your browser in numerous ways, including by fixing the QR code problem.

Restart WhatsApp Web

You must restart WhatsApp Web on your computer if the problem with the QR code not working on a Windows computer persists. This approach will eliminate any chance of WhatsApp web bugs. Additionally, it will rule out any chance of a WhatsApp web software issue. As a result, you may easily perform this on your browser by clicking the reload symbol that is located next to the URL link.

Contact WhatsApp Messenger Support

In the event that none of these suggestions work, contact WhatsApp Support. Open WhatsApp, go to Settings > Help > Contact Us, and then describe the problem there. Alternatively, you may open your browser and go to the WhatsApp Support page, where you can enter your contact information and choose Web and Desktop under the “How do you use WhatsApp?” section. Send the mail after describing the issue in the dialogue box. Make careful to describe in full the troubleshooting procedures you used to resolve the problem.
