How to Fix Windows Update Error 0x80070057

Many windows users face the issue of Windows update error 0x80070057. This kind of error is very common and can be fixed very easily. If you are wondering what this error actually means? Then, you must know that this error code identifies the issue that occurred in your storage system. It can happen that if your hard drive or local drive does not have enough space to download files, then this error will occur.

Sometimes, it can also depict the incompatibility issue of your file system or a corrupted hard drive. Mostly this error is the variant of an unknown error or any unspecified parameters encountered. This error stops the usual updating process and temporarily starts breaking the system. So, it is important to fix these error issues whenever you face one. In order to know how you can fix this windows update error, follow the below-given tips.

Tips To Fix Update Error Code 0x80070057

These errors may occur when you are backing up the files, installing a windows OS, or any corrupt entries interrupting your updating process. So, once you determine the cause of the error, most probably, you are going to fix the issue within a minute. To fix this issue, you can use some potential fixing tips that will help you in resolving the issue quickly.

1.Remove All Unnecessary Used Space

When you update your system, the old version of it gets saved into the folder named Windows.old. This storing of the old versions of data on your PC decreases the storage free space as too many gigabytes will be unnecessarily stored. And that’s why this update error may occur. Therefore, you need to free up space by following these steps:

  • Press Windows+E to open File Explorer, and then go to This PC section.
  • Now, check how much storage is left in your windows.
  • If it is fully packed, right-click on the folder and choose Properties.
  • A floating bar will appear, select Disk Cleanup and then clean up system files.

This way, every item will be directed to the windows update cleanup and recycle bin. Now. simply press ok and delete files.

2.Adjust Windows Date And Time

Though this error 0x80070057 is not commonly caused if your windows date and time are out of sync. But if this problem occurs, you can first check your date and time once to ensure it is synced right. If not, adjust them correctly.

If you have Windows 11, simply press Windows+I to open the settings app. And go to the date and time section and then turn on the set time automatically and set time zone automatically section.

If you have Windows 10, you need to right-click on the taskbar. You will be directed to the taskbar setting. Now, adjust the date and time accordingly and at the end, select Sync now.

3.Check If There Is Any Pending Update

Sometimes, error code 0x80070057 comes up due to any pending update that has not been completed yet. So, first, check if any update is there that you might have missed. For Windows 11 users, simply press Windows+I. You will be directed to the settings page. Now select the Windows update option and then click on Check for updates.
Moreover, for Windows 10 users, press Windows+I and click on Update and security. Now, select the option of Check for updates. If you see any pending updates, install the latest one to avoid facing Windows update errors.

4Fix The Interference In Group Policy

If you are Windows 10 user, you may have faced this error issue a lot. But you can solve it by altering the group policy settings.

  • Press Windows+R to go to the Run dialogue. Now, type gpedit.msc and press Enter key.
  • Next, go to the computer configuration, then select administrative templates.
  • Again, select the Windows components option, then Windows update and configure automatic updates.
  • Under configure automatic updates, select not configured.

This will reset the group policy, and thus there will be no interference. Now, restart your PC, and check if the problem still persists or is fixed. If not fixed, try another way to fix the error.

5.Try Running Chkdsk Command

Chkdsk ensures the users that the data stored on the drive is safe and secure. If any file is unsafe, corrupted or bugged, then by running the Chkdsk command, you will come to know about them. And therefore, you can use this command to identify the cause and fix the issue of error 0x80070057.

To do so, go to File Explorer and then open This PC. Now, right-click on the system drive and choose properties. Switch to the Tools tab and enter check. Then simply Scan the drive to find the issue.

These are some of the tips that you can use to fix the Windows update error 0x80070057 quickly. However, if none of these ways works well, you will be required to invest in the new drive. In such conditions, the error may arise due to the problem in hardware. So, it is better to replace the system drive with the new drive.
