What is a custom search?

A custom search is a feature of a programmable engine that will allow anyone to create a great search engine for a website, a long-form blog and even several websites. Configuring the search engine based on your requirements can help in searching both desirable web pages and images. Custom search also allows you to fine-tune all the displayed results and can help you build a programmable search engine that will generate traffic and traction.

This feature is important because creating a programmable search engine can help you search through one website or multiple websites based on requirements. This is an excellent tool for several businesses. Using a custom search engine, the user can search on the specified sites and see results from the same.

Several sites and blog users use this option and host the custom search engine. Creating this search engine can help in restrictions, prioritizing, and better results.

New changes

In the last few months, Google Chrome no longer allows you to search for custom keywords. This makes finding relevant results difficult. This setting can be controlled and changed by a simple procedure. There are two simple steps of restoring the setting back, and with minor tweaks, you can easily avail this option.

How to get the old option back

Getting the old custom search option is an easy process. This can be done with the flag. Chrome flags allow beta features and can use them for testing features before their release for prime time. For getting your old custom search back, you’ll need first to activate your chrome-flags

  • For this, the first step is to open the chrome browser on your device. The next thing you need to do is to type chrome://flags in your address bar.
  • You will be taken to a page that is titled experimental. This experimental page is divided into two columns. These columns are named available and unavailable. Scroll down to the list and search for a specific flag that is available. Next, enable this flag from the drop-down menu. This is how basic chrome flags work.

How to enable custom space bar searches-

  • First, type ‘omnibox keyword’ in the search field, and the keyword search button option appears.
  • Here you need to click on the default box and set the option to disabled. Next, type the omnibox suggestion into the search field box. When you see the on-the-box suggestion button, click on the default box to the right and set the option to enable it. After this, you need to click on the relaunch button at the bottom of the page and restart Google Chrome. When you restart Google Chrome, you will see space with custom searches.

This will solve all your issues regarding custom search options in Google chrome and give you better control over search settings. Try this out today and be amazed by how easy it is.
